Hamilton Furniture Initiative - Introduction and Aims

The Hamilton Furniture Initiative is a registered Scottish Charity (No.023969) constituted in 1995 and was initially totally grant funded by the Urban Aid Renewal Scheme. The original aims of the project remain unchanged since inception.

The main objective of the Project is to encourage the reuse and recycling of Furniture and Household Effects to disadvantaged groups or individuals.

The Project aims are to supply clean, safe furniture and household effects to such groups referred to us by authorised Referral Agencies.

A small (£10) Delivery Fee is applied to each Referral delivered purely to help cover vehicle and fuel charges.

There are many benefits arising from our work including social, environmental and economic. The social benefit is that we are able to improve individual and family lifestyles, help reduce poverty and offer the opportunity for Service Users to access good quality reuseable furniture and household effects on a free basis.
Also, by reducing demand for landfill we go some way to assisting South Lanarkshire Council in achieving its target of recycling a high percentage of waste as directed by National Government and the European Union.

Economically, by reducing Landfill, we are impacting on the cost of bulky item collection and helping to reduce the occurrence of illegal fly tipping.
